Muddy paws, sorted at the back door
Country walks, wet coats and sandy beaches are part of life with a dog. A dedicated dog shower makes the clean-up quick, comfortable and contained.
In this guide we explain how a home dog shower works, where it fits best, which size suits your dog, and a few tips for easier bath times. When you’re planning a new utility room or kitchen, our designers can show you how to build one in.

Why wash your dog at home?
Most dogs need a quick rinse far more often than a full groom. With a proper place to do it, the job stops being a chore.
Mud stays at the door
Rinse and dry straight after a walk, so mud, sand and water never reach the kitchen, the hallway or the sofa.
Kinder on your back
No lifting a wet dog into the bath or kneeling over it. The dog shower can even be raised to a height that suits you.
Warm water, calmer dog
Thermostatic control keeps the water at a steady, comfortable temperature, which is much nicer than a cold hose in the garden.
Where does a dog shower go?
The best spot is usually wherever your dog comes back in, ideally close to existing hot, cold and waste pipes.

Utility room
Sits in a run of units like any base cabinet, with the plumbing usually close by.

Boot room
The natural stop between the walk and the house, with boots, leads and towels all in one place.

Laundry room
With the washing machine right there, dog beds and towels go straight in afterwards.

Kitchen
Built into a run of units with a matching worktop, it looks like part of the kitchen.
Which size suits your dog?
There are two widths, both at a depth that lines up with standard kitchen cabinetry.
Nomad
60cm
For small to medium dogs, and homes where space is tight. It takes up the same space as a standard base unit, at 595mm wide, 550mm deep and 868mm high.

Explorer
90cm
A roomier tub for medium and larger dogs, or for households that wash their dogs often. It’s built for everyday use in utility rooms, garages and dedicated dog wash spaces.

What to look for in a home dog shower
Whether you’re planning a new utility room or updating an existing one, these are the details that make a difference every day.
Six tips for easier bath times
A few simple habits make washing quicker and help your dog stay relaxed.
01
Brush first
Loosen dried mud and tangles before the water goes on. It’s faster, and the drain stays clearer.
02
Keep it lukewarm
Test the water on your wrist. Comfortable for you usually means comfortable for them.
03
Start at the neck
Work backwards and downwards, keeping water out of ears and eyes. Wipe the face with a damp cloth.
04
Use a dog shampoo
Dogs’ skin is different from ours, so choose a shampoo made for them. For everyday mud, plain water is often enough.
05
Rinse thoroughly
Leftover shampoo can irritate skin, so keep rinsing until the water runs clear.
06
Towel, then reward
Dry well, especially in winter, and end with a treat so bath time becomes something to look forward to.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much space do I need?
The smaller model is 60cm wide, the same as a standard base cabinet, and the larger one is 90cm. Both are 550mm deep, so they line up with kitchen units.
What plumbing does it need?
Hot and cold water plus a waste connection, the same as a sink. It arrives ready to install with its fittings included.
When should I plan one in?
If you’re renovating, plan it in at the layout stage alongside the rest of your utility room or kitchen design. That’s the easiest time to position the pipes.
Is it hard to keep clean?
No. The tub wipes down easily and the debris trap lifts out to empty, so hair and grit don’t build up in your drains.
Can you design one into my room?
Yes. Culina + Balneo is the Incredible Dog Shower partner for Worcestershire, Birmingham, Solihull and Cheltenham, and our designers can plan a dog shower into your utility room, boot room or kitchen. Book an appointment to talk it through.
